Large companies have security teams and payment-approval systems. A small business usually has an accounts inbox, a PDF invoice and a deadline. When a supplier's email is copied or a bank account is swapped on an invoice, one payment can wipe out a month's margin. South African banks reported R2.4 billion in digital banking fraud claims across 110,074 incidents in 2025 (SABRIC, Annual Crime Statistics 2025, pages 3 and 7).
